Latest Updates from Our Project:

Character Update - Lillian
over 5 years ago – Wed, Sep 12, 2018 at 12:36:13 PM

Like the title says, this Update will focus on the new character, Lillian, but I also have some other game stuff to cover. So finally, our first new character, Lillian.

Lillian is now the 7th character in Thief's Roulette. Like I said, there will be a Cast of 15 (including the Main Character). There will be another character revealed this week, along with some other cool stuff.

Next, I want to ramble a bit about game mechanics. I'll probably do this in upcoming Updates as well so be prepared.

The Roulette and 'Randomness'

Now, just as it says in the title and really all over the Campaign Page, the game, Thief's Roulette, that our characters compete in, has an element of Luck to it. However, for the Player (You) the game is not truly random. I'm manipulating the game's Roulette on my end to ensure the best story first and foremost. The Choices that the Player makes will determine what the Roulette lands on. So playing the game a second time making the exact same choices will have identical Roulette spins. Various choices that you make will lead to different spin results. For Example, if you start a rivalry between you and another character, you can expect the story to try to keep them alive to fulfill that Arc. Some choices can extend or shorten the lives of other characters. The Choices you make along the way determine who lives and dies, and how the Roulette spins. One Choice may lead to a different set of characters landing on your team, a different character receiving a Trade Token, those sort of things. Those changes trickle down, create alternate paths and lead to unique playthroughs.

TLDR: The Roulette responds to Player choice. Decisions you make (rivalries, alliances and more general choices) will affect how the Roulette spins. This is so that I can give the player the best story, tailored to the actions they take.

I hope that this will lead to Players being excited to take on multiple playthroughs.

I want to continue making Updates like this that explain some of the game's mechanics. I think for the next Character's reveal I will go into the HEM mechanics. But not too far into them, I want to leave some of their unique effects under wraps so that you guys can find out on your own.

That's all for this update. We're moving at a great pace. At this point I dont know what to say about all the support. Thief's Roulette will be a reality thanks to everyone of you guys. Thank you!

Late Night Update - Sorry #2
over 5 years ago – Tue, Sep 11, 2018 at 11:46:15 PM

Hey, guys. Uh... Character is pretty close to done, I just want to spend a little more time on her. Especially during the Kickstarter I want to make sure I'm showing my best work. First impressions are crucial right now. But since I don't want to have nothing to show, here's a little teaser.

-Lillian, the 7th Thief.

Full reveal coming up soon. I'll include a bit more in that Update to make up for being late. I also promised to talk about the Roulette and how its "Randomness" is handled in the game, so I'll be doing that for this upcoming Update.

That's it, I'll be better from now on!

Mini Update - Sorry this is not the new Character!
over 5 years ago – Mon, Sep 10, 2018 at 09:55:29 PM

It's been brought to my attention on two occasions now that there has been some confusion regarding Tier Rewards. I have updated as many Tiers as I can with every Item included in the Tier. Unfortunately, I cannot Update Tiers that have already been taken. So some Tiers are missing a List of items.

Things that I can clear up right now is that all Tiers from the $15 Early Bird Tier and UP will include a digital copy of the game. All Tiers from the $5 Thank You Tier and UP will include having your name in the game's Credits. Sorry for not being more attentive beforehand. Please continue to come to me with any concerns you may have.

Day 3 Update
over 5 years ago – Mon, Sep 10, 2018 at 08:13:06 PM

We're moving at an amazing pace. There's been so much support for the project, so a very big thanks to every one of you guys. This is another simple Update, I've got some information to cover and some things to clear up.

Regarding the PC Release of Thief's Roulette; there will be the option to request a Key for Steam, GoG or Itch.io. GoG and Itch offer DRM Free Game Keys, and that's something many people prefer and are accustomed to. So, that option is now on the table. Later down the line, all Backers that will receive a game, will be asked whether they want it for Nintendo Switch or PC. Those that choose PC will be given these 3 additional options.

Next, I realize that the Lady Luck's Game section of the Campaign Page may come off as a bit wordy, especially with no visual... So I put together a very simple Diagram that lays out a Day in Thief's Roulette:

I hope that didn't make things more confusing... Maybe no one had a problem understanding and I'm just being paranoid.

Simply put, the Players get scrambled into 3 Teams. At this time, a Trade Token can be used by anyone and everyone who has one. When the Teams are finalized, the 3 Teams go down into the Challenge Rooms. The order that the Teams solve the Puzzle, exit, and arrive at the Casino's Waiting Room will determine the placements. Then Marking Roulette begins, it spins on 2nd Place, then spins twice on 3rd Place. If someone holds a Reroll Token, they may Reroll any one of these 3 spins at the cost of their Token. Once the Marking Roulette is over and all Spins are finalized, if someone has 2 Marks they will be sent to the Execution Room. After this, the cycle will continue until 2 Challenges have been performed. After both Challenges, the Break Time begins and the Players may rest until tomorrow. They will awake, and begin the next 2 Challenges.

If anyone has questions just let me know...

The next thing I wanted to talk about is the music. For some reason I was offering the game's Soundtrack as a Backer Reward without even sharing the game's music. So there is now a soundcloud page for the game!

Just 3 Songs as of now, many more are being worked on. Along with making video games, my other life's dream was to ask people to check out my soundcloud. This is a pretty good day.

That's about it for now. Tomorrow I will do another Update and finally show the 7th character in Thief's Roulette. Along with the new character, I want to explain how the game handles the Marking Roulette itself. From the Player's point of view, marking is not truly random; so I will explain that in detail tomorrow. I hope you all look forward to it.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the project, please comment or message me!

Day 1 Complete
over 5 years ago – Sun, Sep 09, 2018 at 01:24:34 AM

A great end to the first day. For my first Kickstarter Campaign and my first serious game project I can't ask for anything more in just one day.

Thank you to all the Backers and everyone who has helped spread the word about the project. You've done your part, now it's time I got to work and did my part. I know I still have a lot to learn when it comes to marketing and putting myself out there; but over the course of this week (and beyond) I'll be contacting even more people, and letting them know about the Kickstarter. Along with that, I know I have an obligation to provide more for the supporters who are already here. This week I will reveal 2 new characters and one of the game's initial CGs. So that should be cool.

Please look forward to the future of Thief's Roulette. Theres so much more that I want to show.
